So… Wednesday night was officially the scariest night of my life.

My 61-year-old grandfather suffered from a mild stroke called a TIA.

He’s confused, he had problems following basic commands, and he can’t speak well (he doesn’t even know my name sometimes).

It’s frightening because just 30 minutes earlier he was fine, then all of the sudden BAM…he’s not my Apa anymore. I mean he is, but he isn’t (if that makes any sense). Hell I gave him a card earlier today with “Apa” written in it, and he asked me who that was. I’ve been calling him that for 18 1/2 years, since I first learned how to talk because I couldn’t say grandpa.

Even more, he’s supposed to come home on Sunday, and he’s supposed to have a care giver 24/7, and I’m supposed to for 2 days almost completely by myself. The thing is, I don’t think I can. I don’t think that I’m strong enough to handle seeing my grandfather like this, and have to responsible for caring for him without crashing and burning. I can’t handle seeing him like this, but I know I have no choice but to suck it up and handle it.

…I want my Apa back. :’(

So, I spent the last 2 nights watching angsty teen movies that dealt with rape and drug abuse.

The first one- Speak starring Kristen Stewart, is probably one of best features yet… from what I’ve seen. Basically girl lives somewhere in the Midwest, goes to a party at the end of 8th grade, drinks, gets raped, and spends her freshman year of high school trying to deal with it.

numero dos- Thirteen starring Evan Rachel Wood, also good. Mom’s a recovering alcoholic, dad’s a flake, and brother’s a toker. She lives in the LA and enters the 7th grade trying to attract of the older popular girls- which leads to smoking, drinking, cutting, and the use of various drugs (and inhalants).

Both were VERY well directed, acted and I like the cinematography on both. Even better, unlike some films directed at teens and young adults, it actually FITS and focuses on hardships that females teenagers actually deal with.

(Reblogged from ohai-mg)

It was a beautiful day, just like today. I was in 6th grade, and we were just starting science class. We were supposed to start making ion circles from various elements when my principal came over the PA system and instructed for all students to return to their homerooms. My science room was my homeroom so I didn’t have to move anywhere. A few minutes later my principal came over the PA again and told us what happened. “At approximately 8:45 this morning a jet airliner crashed in to the North Tower of the World Trade Center, and approximately fifteen minutes later another airliner crashed in to the South Tower. As of right now there are no other reports, but I ask teachers to keep their students in their clusters.”

About twenty minutes later she came over the PA again and informed us another plane had hit the Pentagon, and that all three attacks were intentional. It wasn’t long after that that she informed us of the collapse of the South Tower, and the crash landing of a final plane in a field somewhere in Pennsylvania. Almost immediately I hear my math teacher in the next room start crying. Just a short time later she comes over the PA for the final time and told us that final tower had collapsed.

Because of the magnitude of the incident, we still went to class, but we didn’t do any work, we just talked about what was happening. For the rest of the day the only times the PA was used was to call students to the office for an early pick up, and for the afternoon announcements at the end of the day. During lunch a few of us tried to go the media center, but teachers and assistant principals made it impossible. Apparently they had the TV on to one of the local news stations, and the 7th and 8th graders were in there watching it, but they didn’t find it appropriate for us to watch. I tried to get in, but the only thing that I succeeded in doing was getting yelled at.

School was almost over when my grandfather came to get me. He worked at a consultant place in Ridgefield, and apparently he had seen one of the planes fly over his business just before it hit. When I got home, I tossed my backback on the floor next to the couch, turned on the TV to CNN and got something to drink from the kitchen. I could hear all the news anchors repeat what they had already said, and when I walked back into the living room I was greeted with the site of the towers burning, then collapsing. I fell asleep on the couch that night watching the news, knowing that the world as we know it is over, and that this country will never be the same.

— Nine years later, I still remember where I was on that fateful day. Do you? Long live the victims of Flights 93, 175, 77 and 11 and all of the other men and women who died that day. May you rest in peace.

Sitting on his porch, he reminisces.

About his youth, and fishing with his dad.

And the summer days spent swinging from the old oak tree,

just to land in ol’ Farmer Miller’s pond scaring all the fish.

Sitting on his porch, he reminisces.

Thinking bout his teens, playing Football in high school.

And the day he got drafted, as a young green Marine.

And getting shipped to an unknown land, to fight for his country.

Sitting on his porch, he reminisces.

Thinking about after the war, coming home to his high school sweetheart.

And the day they got married, and when their children were born.

And all of the years after teaching them how to fish.

Sitting on his porch, he reminisces.

About watching his grandchildren as they played tag, and climbed trees.

While his wife and daughters stayed inside making dinner.

And his sons sat on the porch beside him, discussing life,

and drinking beer.

Sitting on his porch, he reminisces.

About his wife, a few years passed,

And all of the years they spent in this old house.

And the memories those old walls held.

And as he wipes away a tear, he smiles.

Someday, in the future.

In a land someplace else,

He sees his wife, young and beautiful, standing on that porch.

And he tells her about everything she missed.

And she tells him about finding his old dog Spud.

And together, they sit on that porch and reminisce.

*After years of not writing anything like this, and weeks of having a massive brain fart I came up with this. Hope it’s not too bad.
